Security Issue: Sensitive Files

At work many people use senstive files. Currently the lady in the office was using pkzip to password encrypt her files and recently I installed winzip onto her computer and used the password encryption on that program.

My question is, how secure is the password in winzip in comparison to pkzip?

Also is there another method of file protection that is quick and user friendly that the people in the office can use?

I dont think there is any difference, WinZip and PkZip are cross-compatible so the password encryption methods have to be fairly simular.

I would not consider pkzip/winzip to be secure in any shape or form, modern computers can crack these passwords fairly fast. If you must continue using zip I would recomend using 8+ char with a combination of letters/case and numbers.

according to Phil Zimmerman, the guy who made PGP, the winzip encryption program has been cracked, use PGP instead. It depends on how sensitive the file is though.
