I am trying to figure out how to setup security for a hotspot at a fairly large corporation. I have researched, and found many ideas, but I have a situation with most of them.

Here is my problem. The main internet connection (Cable Modem) is established in a building over 1000 feet from where we need to install the hotspot, and the router that runs dhcp and assigns the ip is also down there. The network is cascaded thru multiple buildings before it ends up at the building where I need the hotspot. Meaning that there are 4 or 5 established network connections using the main router before it even gets to me.

In the building where the hotspot needs to go, I have a WRT54G secured wireless router / network which also already has several machines attached to them. I was planning on connecting another router/wireless gateway to the back of this router to get the internet access required, but I know this is not very secure, being that I can see all of the machines on the main network.

Is there any good way to secure a network this way? I cannot run another wire all the way up from the other building, where the modem is, as it would be too costly.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would suggest to Utilize a consultant.

The terms "fairly large corporation" and WRT54G do Not sit well together.

There's a lot of ways to do this. The most common is to tunnel from the access point to another tunnel endpoint that's on an unsecure network (Internet). VLANs are not a security feature and I wouldn't rely on them for such.
