Saw on the news that the Coalition forces were trying to secure areas to ensure security during the elections. How come they don't space the elections out in different areas and then provide full security for that period of time in that area? Is there something unfair about conducting the election over a few days?

Well you'd have to prevent the results from leaking out early from various regions, else you may end up influencing the results in areas that vote later. Some voters would get discouraged from voting if they thought the outcome was already determined, or there may be other such side effects.

This also isn't the first election there, and we do have a decent MI corps, so we pretty much know where we need to lay the security on heavy and where it can be lighter.

However, no solution is perfect, so the tensions and risk are certainly pretty high right now for all parties involved -- Afghan and NATO alike.

If it's your thing , just include our boys in your prayers. ;)
