Hey guys,

I have a few questions regarding a security camera my dad wants to buy. Here, it's the "Hi-Res Bullet Cam w/Infrared Night Vision". (If this is a crappy camera, can you suggest one for ~$90?) I was wondering if and how I could connect this cam to a pc and record right to the harddrive rather than to a vcr. (Is this a good idea?) I would probably need a tv tuner card right? (Any recommendations?) I have an extra 250gb hard drive just waiting to be used for something. What would I need to do/get for this work? Any specific hard/software?

Thanks in advance.

geeks.com usually has a few security cams and I think a card for your PC that can monitor 4 or 8 at once. bgmicro.com has 'em too.

you need a pretty good tv tuner card and for sound if your cam has it you need a nifty sound card for crips quality. Ive actually seen some people use their webcam as a security camera. Here is the website. Its a program that you can try out with a webcam to capture video Link

Thanks guys. I'm not going to need audio, and I don't think a webcam would be good for an outside camera. My dad also just wants 1 camera in front of the house. Not like 4 or 5.

A standard video capture card with only one input would probably work for him then.
