Hello, I would like to, if its possible to do this an easy way, use two different desktops with the same monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones, USB controllers. For security reasons.

I would like to be able to quickly switch desktops ideally without having to unplug everything and replug everything in, or having to buy 2 of everything. Any way to do this?

alternatively, is there a reasonable way to get the same level of security by using administrator accounts, where one account is invulnerable from a compromise on the other account? Is Windows 8 more secure than windows 7 64 bit?

kvm would accomplish the actual switching. you can get a cheap one with audio like this:

then just plug the different computers into different inputs on the monitor, cuz you probably don't want to use vga.

not sure how that has anything to do with security.

thanks, and a KVM switch seems like a reasonable option, I would like to have one system as secure as possible, no exploitable programs like instant messengers, wouldn't really use it for browsing the internet at all; and the other system would be normal use without restrictive security.

Could I use two hard drives, an operating system on each, and be able to easily/quickly unplug one hard drive and plug in the other one and reboot and have the same effect? Seems much cheaper than having to build another system for this purpose.

I really appreciate the help!

Yes, you can use one machine with an EZ-Swap 4 and simply change boot drives in it. THE RACK MOUNTS DIRECTLY IN A STANDARD hdd BAY.

Security is pretty good too. When you are not using a particular boot drive, it can be locked up in a safe. I have separate drives for Win 7 and Win 8, and each has a backup duplicate.
