Securing my wireless network?

Hello. I just purchased a notebook with a wireless network card, and the store gave me a SMC 7004VWBR Wirless wouter to go with it. I have had a few problems with it, and I had a few questions.

1. I have 3 computers in total, 2 that need to be wired and one wireless. The wireless notebook and one desktop both with XP can use the router just fine. The one with Win98 cannot seem to connect. The software that came the router does not complete the setup on this Win98 machine. Is there a way to not need this included software. The error is something along the lines of gatewat adapter IP does not match router IP, please reset router and then try again. But it says this error again, even after I have reset the unit. How would you suggest I get the internet working on this computer.

2. How do I make my network secure. Is there a way I can restrict wireless access to just this notebook? What is WEP, should I use it and how do I enable it? What are the other 'basic' precautions that I should take?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer, I appreciate it.

The Router has nothing to do with setting your basic Wireless connection on the Laptop.

You need to set and configure the Wireless Card Drivers on your Laptop first.

Instructions to configuring the Wireless part of the Router should be in the manual and should be done from a Wired Computer.

Here you have a thought about security and setting the Router, and Laptop to work together.
