In an effort to remove the bloody "SecureBoot isn't configured correctly" watermark on my newly installed Win8.1, I've been experimenting with the SecureBoot settings in UEFI setup.
If SecureBoot is enabled by using "Custom" (vs "Standard"), and "Default Key Provisioning" is enabled under "Key Management," UEFI indicates that SecureBoot is active.
However, whenever SecureBoot is active, CSM Support is turned off.
Enabling SecureBoot sets CSM Support "Never". If I manually reset CSM Support to "Always," and <F10> to save settings and reboot, CSM reverts to "Never."
When CSM is disabled, Windows won't load. I think it is related to my i3-3225 processor's IGP. When CSM is disabled, UEFI only appears on one monitor. When CSM is enabled, UEFI appears (mirrored) on both my monitors.
So, I need CSM to boot Windows. But, if SecureBoot is enabled, CSM is disabled. If I disable SecureBoot, I can re-enable CSM and boot, but have that annoying watermark.
Another (perhaps related?) question: For choices of "OS Type" there are:
- Other OS
- Windows 8
- Windows 8 WHQL
What's the difference between the last two?
PS: I'm using the latest (7/31/2013) BIOS: F11.
