Hopefully Rossman et al can help me figure this out.

I need to find a web host to use for work. I've read through some of the existing threads on this topic but was wondering about security. We would be putting some data on the host that we wouldn't want compromised obviously, but was wondering if you know any hosting companies that go the extra mile to protect your data or at least that do a good job.

We don't need too much...

Maybe 500MB storage, 5 GB/month transfer, PHP, mySQL, SSH access, FTP. That should cover it.

Also may have to go the *icky* ASP and access route though, so insight on both would be appreciated.

Eh. We want to go cheaper probably. We register all our domains through Verisign though for some reason .... It's like $30 or $40 a year when we could easily spend less. Money isn't spent wisely here. I would guess in the $30/month or less range.

What's that control panel you use Rossman that's better than cpanel? E something?

You should never host sensitive data (such as customer information) on a shared web hosting environment. So unfortunately with a budget of $30/mo you're screwed. The only SECURE approach would be a dedicated server, even better if you colo near you.

DirectAdmin > cPanel
