Secure my Wireless Network

I just bought a wireless router off the forum, and when I view all available network connections I see my neighbors is secured and mine isn't. I was wondering how I get mine to be secured. Also wondered how to not have my SSID being displayed on there computers. Wondered if anyone had a walktrough or what-not. Not to setup a wireless network but encrypt it and all that.
