If it only costs £4 to fix the trousers, they're far from ruined. Hitting a car is completely different from spilling some ketchup.

Because, in reality, that's what this boils down to. This E-mail exchange appeals to those with class envy more than anyone else.

Maybe, although for me it's just weird that he can't suck it up and forget the bill.

At least your chips ain't soggy

She has NO moral superiority here. Her passing around the E-mail exchange makes her as petty and cheap as him.

She doesn't give a fvck about moral superiority, she just buried her mother and comes back to that retarded email.

And sending it all over the web using her mother's death as an excuse is cheap and petty.

They both suck.

In a fit of anger over his retardation she sent it to people in her firm. They sent it all over the net, not her.

Same thing. That's how crap like this gets started. It is bad form to send out private E-mail like that.

And her anger over his retardation justifies her retardation? Since when do two wrongs make a right?

Didn't grade school teach you folks anything?

And sending it all over the web using her mother's death as an excuse is cheap and petty.

You used these two to reinforce your objection to her behavior. One of these is hyperbole, the other is bullsh!t because the mother thing is why he is an asshole. In fact, she sent the email to people in her firm who probably knew her mother had died. Only an asshole would try to collect such a small debt when someone is dealing with a parental death. And only a moron would expect such an oblivious email to remain private.

A private E-mail is just that, private. There is never an excuse for sharing it without the knowledge and permission of the other participant.

She passed around his initial E-mail before even responding to it, or informing him of her mothers "sudden" death.

She then composed a melodramatic E-mail to respond to him, informing him of the death, and that a "collection" had been offered to her by coworkers, but turned down. She then made that E-mail public as well.

She is as cheap and petty as he is. No death or class differences excuse such behavior.

I can just picture seeing amused fighting with a homeless man on the street over who saw the quarter on the sidewalk first.

Then you obviously did not read my posts.

Especially the part where I said this:

Sure, the guy should have been generous and sucked it up, but at the same time she is being petty by passing this around as if she has some moral superiority.

I would have paid the bill if I was him. But at the same time, if I was her, I NEVER would have passed around a private E-mail exchange. That's just as cheap and petty as demanding someone pay a $7 cleaning bill.

Next time try a little reading comprehension and objectivity.

This is the logic that your gf puts up with? If you can't see the "fundemental difference" between £4 and £400, you've got issues.

And both of them are petty.
Agreed. The lawyer's E-mail certainly wasn't harrassing enough to warrant the tirade from the secretary, but for pete's sake it was less than $8. He should have just written it off.

Overall though, I think that the secretary comes off worse for being so incredibly pissy. She showed a very poor attitude in her E-mail and if I were in charge she'd get at least a talking-to about grace under pressure.

ZV

EDIT: The appropriate response from the secretary would have been something like this:
"Hi, I'm really very sorry about having spilt that catsup on your trousers and we both know that it was an accident. However, money is a little tight right now because of expenses from my mother's recent passing and I would really appreciate it if you could forgive the debt since the whole thing was accidental."

Instead, she chose to forward everything and take the sarcasti-b!tch route when writing the E-mail. The lawyer's initial E-mail, while blunt and petty considering that it was $8, was certainly not insulting nor arrogant in tone.

In a statement Thursday night, Baker & McKenzie said: "We confirm we are aware of the incident and subsequent e-mail exchange.

"This is a private matter between two members of staff that clearly got out of hand. We are investigating so as to resolve it as amicably as we can.

"As I am sure you understand we respect the privacy of our staff and make it a policy not to comment on individuals to the media."
