Well, where are all the anti-war people anyway? Geez this president sure is a war hawk! Oh well. It's Obama so it's OK. Oh, and its because we're going after (whats the mocking word you libs used to say?) turrorrists!

U.S. Is Intensifying a Secret Campaign of Yemen Airstrikes

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has intensified the American covert war in Yemen, exploiting a growing power vacuum in the country to strike at militant suspects with armed drones and fighter jets, according to American officials.

The extent of America’s war in Yemen has been among the Obama administration’s most closely guarded secrets, as officials worried that news of unilateral American operations could undermine Mr. Saleh’s tenuous grip on power. Mr. Saleh authorized American missions in Yemen in 2009, but placed limits on their scope and has said publicly that all military operations had been conducted by his own troops.

Al Qaeda’s affiliate in Yemen is believed by the C.I.A. to pose the greatest immediate threat to the United States, more so than even Qaeda’s senior leadership believed to be hiding in Pakistan. The Yemen group has been linked to the attempt to blow up a transatlantic jetliner on Christmas Day 2009 and last year’s plot to blow up cargo planes with bombs hidden inside printer cartridges.

But the amusing thing is this

Clinton Says Yemen's Cease-Fire Must Be Respected

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says all sides should honor Yemen's cease-fire so a peaceful change of power can take place.
Clinton, who's traveling in the Persian Gulf region, told reporters that the U.S. was pushing for an "immediate, orderly and peaceful transition" in Yemen.

You'll see the anti war hawks out en masse if they ever put troops on the ground there. But since this is fought by drones and Yemen troops, no Americans are in the combat zone there. As soon as American bodies start coming home from the war in Yemen or Libya, there will be outrage.

So if a fighter jet happens to go down, does that count? There is still American death risk involved here.

Yah youre probably right. Needless wars are acceptable if fought from afar.

Are we using fighter jets or unmanned drones? I believe for this we have no American combat troops. But risk or no risk, there'll be no complaints until Americans actually die. And even most Americans view this as a continuation of the war on terror as unlike Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq there's no attempt at a regime change by the US.

Obama got Osama, so he knows what he's doing. I say let the man do what he does best, going after the terrorists Republicans were too scared to go after.

If you didn't know the CIA operates all over the world, don't know what to tell you. It's common knowledge. To call this a "war" is pretty thin. Libya was overt, but it's a distinction without a difference.

Using our money and man power to destroy targets and kill people is "war."

Obama is a war hawk, I will give him that much.

I don't seem to recall Al Queda surrendering and that's who we are attacking there. You surely haven't forgotten that they declared war on us and attacked us on our own soil.

Until they surrender on our terms we should attack and kill them where ever they are.

This is what we should have been doing during the 8 year G W Dumbfuck was President instead of going into Iraq and making a mess out of the region, empowering Iran and emboldening Al Queda but that's how Republicans roll.

Well, Im curious what the US death count has to be in Afghanistan to get people upset. Apparently 1527 with 11,200 wounded isnt enough.

How do you know know no Americans have died in Yemen? Army Special Forces along with Navy SEALs have been in the country for over a year now. I'm not saying any of them have been killed, but we have no way of knowing.

And if they have it's been fighting Al Qeada. Do you have a problem with us trying to defeat Al Qeada?

You guys do know there is a shitload of AQ in Yemen, right? The real, anti-USA AQ as well. I'd say we have a very serious national interest in how that clusterfuck sorts out.

It's amazing to me the people that saw no problem whatsoever in us pissing away trillions of dollars, lives and blood in Iraq (letting Afganistan languish and go to hell in the meantime) constantly bitch about low-level US involvements. Did you suddenly all become Quakers or just want one more thing to whine about Obama about? Gee, I wonder.

Presidents love war. It makes them feel presidential.
No one will care until the draft is started up.
Then all hell will break out.
1960's-70's all over again...

War on Arab World continues...

Hasn't really started yet. This is just priming pump. Wait until a nuke goes off in one of our cities.. we use about 1/10th of what's in arsenal currently.. basically police action not war.

This ...hard to target those bombs without lasers and intel in the first place.

At some point as we decide Al Queda can't have any presence in the world, we need to recognize the problems with declaring the whole world a pacified place we police.

We need to distinguish between places that don't like the US, which we have no right to go killing, and places that are actually a threat, planning to attack the US.

Declaring the whole world be pacified as safe for us is a back door to global empire, which leads to a level of permanent corruption few would likely like much.

I'm not so much concerned about this as I am about getting the hell out of Afghanistan and Iraq. We should have declared victory in Afghanistan and left when we got Bin Laden.

Oh come on come on, can't we see that Obama is pandering to the Saudis. Salem has already fallen, and now the alternative is to side with Yemeni moderates, or watch Al Quida take over.

No American boots on the ground yet, and its likely there will never be any, but still it buys the US and the SA time, to throw monkey wrenches in the ambitions of Yemeni Al-Quida. If it ever comes to a ground war, its SA that must fight it.
