Secret Shopping..

Has anyone heard or tried Secret Shopping?

Some Consumer reporting agency send you to a store to buy stuff and basically grade the store etc etc and whatever you buy you keep...

I always see an ad in the local jobs section... It sounds to good to be true.

I have secret shopped before. All I had to do was to go out and eat somewhere and rate the server, host, food, restaurant appearance, etc... I enjoyed it.

My granddad took a secret eater job part-time. It wasn't too bad, he got a $10-$20 gift certificate and just had to report on the service.

So these ones that are hard to get, how much can you actually make? Do you make any real money, or is it for unemployed people so that they have spending money to blow at stores?

I found this website online RetailReportCard, was it through them?

some google searching and it looks like the website above is a scam and you get tons of spam after signing up.

I don't think anyone makes a living at it, but it is definitely real. Lots of stores/restaurants use them to keep track of how their employees are doing.

For me it wasn't hard to get. I just put down my availability and had to fax them a copy of my drivers license (so that I could shop a bar & grill including beverage) and they sent me work. The last restaurant that I went to paid $20 + my meal. This is not something to do as a job, just a few extra bucks + a good meal.

i've only heard of one that mentioned pay specifically, and that was at neiman marcus. i think the pay was around 40k. that probably isn't the norm for the industry though.

My wife investigated these things a whole lot, and signed up with a couple of companies that do this, but she never actually went on a shopping trip. Typically, it wasn't worth her time because the companies wanted her and a friend to eat at local restaurants at specific times. The only pay she would get would be for the cost of her lunch, which was not to exceed a certain amount.

So if you like getting a free meal now and again, it might be worth your time. Obviously, you are not going to get rich doing this.

most of the compnaies offering to do this are scams.

Iused to be a "spotter" for Ruby Tuesdays when I lived in TN. It was not a bad deal at all. I would go in and make mental notes of

Greet at the door
First greet by server
menu knowledge
how long before food arrived
graded the food
graded the service
graded staff for friendliness
graded rest. for cleanliness.

I would leave and fill out a questionaire at home, mail it in. They reimbursed my check ... up to $25.00 +15% tip.... (which was decent in 1996-2000)

🙂

edit: I would get a list of locations and dates/times and would choose from that.

Also here. You have to sign up with each individual company but they might have more than just one shop for you.

cool stuff

there is also a company that i think is called MysteryShop, you get paid to go to stores like McDonalds and BK, etc. And you time them on their preformance and attitude.

My brother and I used to do this. You're not going to make any significant money doing it, but it's a good way to get some free meals and merch.

I have met one guy that did it for Coke for awhile. They would travel and test both retail and restuarants. It was spot checking product, distributors, etc. Dude made serious money and had a great time doing it. I think at the time there were only 3 or 4 people doing this for Coke.
