For some reason this was in related links on the goat sex man story...

The not-so-secret code names used by the US Secret Service for the president-elect and his family have been published.

Barack Obama is called Renegade, while his wife Michelle is Renaissance, and their daughters Rosebud and Radiance.

Aren't those pretty dumb code names? Over a distorted radio they would all sound the same right? Isn't this why military units always use the phonetic alphabet for code names?

I was expecting something like Shaft. That'd be a great codename.

this

I don't think there's any reason for them to lie about it

"It has no operational security significance any more because of encrypted communication capabilities."

The code names have "nothing to do with security" and more to do with ease in radio communication for those agents whispering into microphones up their sleeves.

It's just easier to say "Renaissance" than "the first lady" or "Michelle Obama"

Agreed. I think it's a cutesy thing they did just for the press. I doubt it's their actual code names.

Understandable but isn't it easier to say PODUS than to say Renegade?

They should have gone with:

Cliff
Claire
Vanessa
Rudy

:)

And they could play the Cosby show theme before each Obama press conference.

Thread Title: Obama code names crap?

I thought Obama had come up with some code when he was in an important meeting and had to pinch a loaf.

"Sorry Mr. Premier, I need to go wax the Buick real fast"

Apparently karena gore chose smurfette.

If I got to choose, and my letter was 'p', I'd totally pick "penis." It'd be awesome to see SS agents walking around whispering penis into their arms.

Mmm-hmmm......and what makes you think that the guys & gals in charge of protecting the president have the same crappy radio gear that we might buy? ;)
