Seconds on Comcast introduction offer

I have been a Comcast cable broadband customer for almost two years. A happy customer I might add since the service has been upgraded three times (now 6 Mbps) since I subscribed at no increase in price. At the time I subscribed they had an introductory offer that included a free cable modem and a charge of only $19.95 for six months. The modem was a Best Data which has some significant problems now -- maybe it always did. Comcast tech support has advised me to get a current Motorola cable modem -- model 5120 or 5101. If I were to join as a new customer, I could get the modem for free and a repeat of the introductory monthly charge. If I were to cancel my current service for four months I could start as a new customer of course, but I have no alternate source for broadband, so this is not an option.

Since I know Anand techies are always looking for a good deal, have any of you found a way around this problem --say by having another member of your family subscribe as you cancel your account. I plan to stay with Comcast, but need the new modem (and would like to get the six months introductory rate again of course)

Thanks for your suggestions.

I think they will not be fooled if another member of your family joins up instead, they would realise it's the same address.

Maybe if you ring them and tell them a DSL company offered you a free modem plus a month for $10 and will they match the offer. This sort of thing often works for me, especially if you're nice to the person on the phone and they know you're a good customer.

Yeah. Comcast is based on address & name. If you could fool them in to thinking you got a devorce or someone moved out you could get away with it maybe once. I think after that it wouldn't work.

Let us know if you find something.
