Secondary IDE not getting detected!

Hi,

I have Asus P4P533 Motherboard, having problems with my secondary optical drive. This is how my configuration is.

On my primary IDE I have HD(m) and dvd-writer(s) which works fine. On my Secondary IDE I have dvd-rom(m) and cd-writer(s) only the master seems to be detected. The lights stays on on my cd0-writer and also my hard drive lights stays on. If I unplug the cd-writer, things are fine.

I had things working before but recently just cleaned the case and re-wired, don't remember how exactly I had it before but can someone please help?

Thanks

You have your jumpers set correctly?

If you're on cable select, set it to slave or master, whichever is appropriate. Sometimes it doesn't detect correctly.

Tried that. My dvd-rom gets detected no problems. I now have my dvd-rom not connected and I have my cd-writer as master but the light stays lit and the drive does not get detected. I am clueless. I know the drive is working fine because it worked this morning.

Either your mobo has a weird IDE controller (broken) or your drive is shot. Try the drive in another computer. If it works, your mobo is messed up, if it doesn't, then your drive is messed up.

Appreciate your help. I tried to place the cd-writer on Primary (s) which didn't do much, switch it back to the way it was after fiddling around a lot, everything worked just the way it was. This is one of those things that can't be explained.

Thanks,
Leo
