Second time now that SSD just stops working out of the Blue (RANT)

The scenario:

Having one of those older Ultradrive SSD from Supertalent which works for MONTHS already without a problem.

I turn PC on, wait for it to boot as every day in the monring, and the system cannot find my OS drive/controller...it's literally vanished without any "logical" reason.

The only way to revive the drive is by setting it back into factory mode via jumper/switch...then use the Supertalent tool and re-flash it with firmware using another emergency OS i had on another HD.

All data is of course lost.

I was still "quite" lucky having had a backup of my OS drive, although 1 month old...luckily i didn't lose important stuff.

I am just really ****ed having to deal with this today again since it wont go into my mind why a SSD would just stop working/getting recognized from one day to the other and be "dead"...

Needless to say to get it back requires some nerding around which i don't think everyone might be able to do.

I wonder if those drives have like a counter in them which kills them after a certain time or something

Sorry to hear about your troubles. 🙁 Losing data is the worst thing that can happen with your computer. I haven't had an issue with my Intel G2's for 3+ years now, but I experienced the same situation you're talking about with other vendor's drives. If you tire of the trouble, the Samsung 830 is the best product on the market at the moment considering price/quality/performance.
Stick with Intel or Samsung if you want peace of mind.

Yes but what ****es me off most, besides the fact that a component like a SSD shouldn't just stop working from one day to the other...is my OWN laziness not having made more regular backups 🙂
However, since the SSD only had the OS and i had a month old backup the damage was rather limited (thanks god), Firefox update and a few new drivers etc... and i am up and running again. (Minus the headaches and lost time today of course...)

Will look into those newer, brand name drives since i wanted a faster and bigger one anyway soon.
