Second time I've gotten this error, what does it mean?

I woke up this morning and the red light on my mouse and the lights on my keyboard were out so I immediately knew what it meant. Turned on my monitor and i had a black screen with "select proper boot device and restart..." Haven't gotten this for over a month, but it's the second time it's happened and i'd like to know if my HD is failing or what? Anybody know?

What OS are you using?

If Win2k or XP have you checked the EVENT LOG for an indication of
what is causing the error?

Do you have an ATA controller card in your system running a hard drive?
Same thing used to happen to me and it was the controller card. I believe it was SIIG who made my card.
After I removed it and put the hard drive on the motherboards IDE port, problem never came back.

I checked the event log and found a few warnings and errors, but I don't really know what i'm specifically looking for. And No, I don't have an ATA controller card, my HD has been plugged into the motherboard since day 1.
I changed the plug from the power source to the HD so maybe that will make a difference, someone said they get lose sometimes and that will cause a problem.
