I fail to see how this is a stereotype. It's just how asian eyes are.

I guess it's ok to call central USA dumbfuckistan again just because that's just who they are...

Not a valid comparison. Even if you call the Midwest Dumbfuckistan that doesn't make it correct. But if call the Chinese slanty-eyed you are entirely correct.

And if I show you a Chinese person without slanty eyes, then what happens to the "correct-ness" of that statement?

Then you're the devil!

What kind of argument is this? You just make statements and call them fact?

It's pretty simple really. While anyone can call the Midwest Dumbfuckistan, that doesn't change the fact that it is actually called the Midwest. Hence calling the Midwest Dumbfuckistan is incorrect. On the other hand, the vast majority of Chinese are slanty-eyed, so calling them slanty-eyed is correct.

So, it would be alright for the Spanish to paint their faces black if the Olympics were being held in Africa?

This is probably similar to say putting on a fake nose or fake curls if you are playing in Jerusalem.

Although, I do feel like its being blown out of proportions. Yes, it was in bad taste, but the original advertisement was for a Chinese athletic clothing company and also it seems most of the hoopla is being made by western media instead of the Chinese themselves.

I mostly attribute that to our sensitivity to racial issues. I was watching a British show and the speaker needed to create an imaginary person and started with a "let's say you have a poor uneducated black guy...". I was like, holy crap that wouldn't fly very far in the US.

Lots of ignorance in this thread. Here's the botton line, if you are Asian, these pictures will be offensive to you, no matter what counter arguments were brought up in this thread.

Were the pictures racist? No, not by definition. Were they distasteful and offensive? Yes. Was that their intention? Who knows, but the fact remains that it was perceived that way by the Chinese people.

Big deal. Most male lovers easily forgive such sayings and think of it as playful teasing and foreplay.

Sorry, this isnt the movies. They cant all do roundhouse kicks. You are stereotyping the fighting abilites of Asians because of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, and I find it offensive.

Heh, what could be more precious than getting attacked by the PC police, only to have them slinging homophobia? Genius.

It may have bordered offensive if they took a photo of them rear-ending someone on the freeway, with the son in the back of the car doing his advanced math homework wearing a shirt that says "size doesnt matter", saying "Oh mee soo sawwy, me wrove you wrong time, I fix your car 5 dolla". Then I can see someone getting upset. Maybe.

So a Russian from Siberia will kick my ass if I call them a chinaman? Or are you talking about orientals?
