Hi.
Today, a friend of mine started complaining of stability problems with his system since i replaced his GF4MX440 with a GF3Ti200@Ti500. After clocking the card to stock & removing all external devices, the stability was improved.
For reference, the problems are hard locks, either on immediate boot or after a few minutes.
I checked his voltages, and the 12v was at 12.14v, the 3.3v at 3.18v, and the 5v at 4.81v. So the 3.3v and 5v wernt upto spec. I checked the make/model of his PSU, and its a "Mercury 300W", aka "El-Cheapo from crap computer shop".
Ive got a feeling that its his PSU causing the problems, so i said i`d give him my "spare" 350W Cheiftec PSU for a fiver (£5). Would that fix the problem do you think, cos i dont want to charge him for something that might not fix it.

Thanks in advance guys.

Possibly it might. It seems to me you were overclocking something (GPU? CPU Both? Neither?) and something in the system just may not OC well. You'll really just have to try and see if it works, there really is no way we can assure you it will. Plus, I think PSUs are rated to be within 5% of the listed voltages. I admit to being really bad at math, but I think those voltages you list are within the 5% range, meaning the 3.3v can go as low as 3.135 and the 5v can go as low as 4.75 and still be "in spec".

The CPU wasnt being OCed.
The video card, i could personally guarantee to run at 230/510 on stock cooling. It had a Zalman ZM80C-Hp & Copper Ramsinks on it, so it aint a heat/OCing problem.
