Christ, are you really that big of a baby?

People complain about considerate smokers...well they can't smoke inside, can't smoke at bars (CA, NY, etc...), God help them if they smoke at a restaurant, and now you want to forbid this man from smoking OUTSIDE, on his balcony?

My suggestion is you stop being such a pvssy. If you're apt is stuffy, turn on the GD air-conditioning and get an indoor air purifier.

He WASN'T a jerk. ST also noted that the man STOPPED smoking, or seriously cut back on his smoking. Either way, ST noted a DECLINE in the times he smelled smoke.

Who's the jerk?

What else do you have a right not to smell? Or does this right only apply to tobacco smoke? Do you have a right not to smell food? Perfume? Pollution? Dirty diapers? B.O.?

Stop making up rights where you have none. You are going to encounter smells you don't like in life. Get over it.

Yeah like suing the city because the garbage truck that comes by every Wednesday to pick up your garbage smells like crap and it disturbs you.

when im around people who smoke.. i just get the urge to smoke even though i shouldn't , so i carry around clove cigarettes (djarums)
Anyone else like clove ciggys?

I used to smoke those as well when I smoked. Smelt like incense

I used to do those once in while (when I was still smoking), but somebody told me that the clove acts as a natural anesthetic which helps disguise the fact that those clove cigarettes are really tearing your throat apart. I heard that if cloves didn't have an anesthetic effect that your throat would hurt like crazy after smoking one of those. I don't know how true all this is.

I know, I was about to feel sorry for this guy's plight until I realized that this guy couldn't possibly be spending his entire life chain smoking out on his balcony. He might smoke one every hour at most. I mean out of the smoke of one cigarette per hour 80% has to flow away somehwere else and maybe, just maybe 20% of it hits this guy's balcony. Of that probably half at most enters his home via an open window. I mean people need to stop crying about every little stupid thing.

Now, now... I don't think he's being unreasonable. I wouldn't like it very much if someone smoked just outside my place and I could smell it inside my home either.

It's not unreasonable to ask someone to move away from your wondow when they smoke, or warn you when they do so you can close your windows so long as you are cool about it and thank them for it. The key here is civility and treating the person like they are doing you a favor... because they are.

What IS unreasonable is expecting managment or the government to do something about it for you.

I agree with that.

It's not legal to use a grill within 10 feet of a building due to fire regulations in most states (if not all).

Buy a good air purifier from Sharper Image or Amazon, you can use it even after you move.

Well, I tried putting a box fan in the bedroom, and it didn't work. Instead of smoke coming through my balcony it came through the bedroom sucked in by the box fan.
And to all the haters... Pfft

My suggestion is you shove it. I don't want purified air, I want fresh air.

No, I should lock myself in my apartment with the windows closed for him to smoke.

ST, talk with him like I've been telling you all along. Be very cool about it and be FRIENDLY. Try to reach a compromise with him.

The key here is compromise. Not demands or whining or foot stomping... but compromise reached through friendly dialoge.

Oh, there is foot stomping. He is going to hear every step I make and every base note in my music until I get some resolution on the smoke issue.
I tried talking to him very nicely about the smoke. He told me to talk to the manager. Now he is going to have to talk to me or the manager about the noise. I guess the manager can tell me to turn down the music, but she can't tell me to not walk in my apartment.

Well, the foot stomping worked :) The guy just moved out :D
Actually I am not sure if that's what did it. He has been out there smoking all day, maybe he lost his job and couldn't afford the area.
Either way, that problem is solved ;)
