I have an XP1600 with a shuttle mobo, 512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video, 2 western dig hard drives, 1 dvd drive and 1 cd-rw.
The computer seems to be running fine but, when I go to access the second drive (which I use for backup mostly), it will sit there for like 30 seconds before it responds.
I have noticed that the next time I access it, it goes faster. It's almost as if the drive has gone to sleep and has to wake up. But I checked my power settings and they're set to NEVER power off the hard drives.
I was thinking about putting my swap file on the 2nd drive but am a bit concerned that it'll slow things down.
Any ideas? Could it have anything to do with which IDE device I put on which cable? At the moment I don't recall which ones are where.
Thanks in advance!
