On my second Intel BadAxe2 motherboard, and it's crapping out, too. Memory slots are dying.....two refuse to recognize memory and the others are only working at very slow speeds. So, I need to buy a replacement motherboard on Saturday and will, unfortunately, have to be from the retail side of sellers instead of being bought online....the BX2 has to leave here by Monday for RMA.

My choices are limited due to having to buy locally.....Asus P5K and P5K-E/Wi-Fi, Gigabyte P35-DS3R, Abit IP35-E and IP35 Pro. Lots of choices..... ....but that's what I have to choose from.

Question......best choice out of the bunch for stability, ease of setup and fewest problems. While OC'ing will be a consideration (Intel Xeon X3210 cpu), it's not of primary concern as, from what I've been able to understand, all the above mentioned mb's all OC pretty well.

Cheers!

List the hardware that you will be using with this new board. IP35-E has been very solid for me. It's my most stable board in several years. Price is only $70AR @ MWAVE. I would definitely go with high quality 1.8V DDR2 667 or 800 memory module from Crucial or Kingston. You can read more about IP35-E at the MB forum. My 1st post contains a lot of info.

Perhaps MWAVE and expedite shipping for a little more $. It's $120 at Frys.

I'd go for the ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP. I've got two of them, and along, with my ASUS P5B-Deluxe/WiFi-AP systems, I've had no hardware issues.

Hardware that'll be used:

Xeon X3210 cpu

2 x 1GB Buffalo Firestix DDR2-800 -- and/or -- 2 x 1GB Corsair XMS2-6400C5DHX (I've both sets on hand)

Radeon X1950 Pro video...PCI-e

Seagate 320GB SATAII HD

2 opticals, both DVD+/-RW drives, both PATA

The cpu and northbridge chipset, if possible with the NB on the new board, will be water cooled using a Laing DDC2 pump, Swiftech Apogee GTX cpu block, Swiftech MCW30 chipset block, and a Swiftech MCR-320 radiator w/ 3 S-Flex "E" fans.

Hope this helps.

You may have problem booting with non-JEDEC standard 1.8V modules. Be sure to disconnect power from PSU and reset CMOS after final assembly to reset MB to factory default.

There are compatibility reports about P5K and some SATA drives, including Raptors. P5K and P5B use 8 phase power module...about 20 more watts under all conditions. My former P5B was vastly inferior to my current IP35-E.
