AMD Athlon64 3000+ $146.00
Geil Ultra Series Value ram 1GB (2X512) $107.43
Jaton Grforce 6600 $120.00
Aspire 450W PSU ATX-450W $43.49

Plextor PX-712SA DVD Combo Drive $106.50

I was getting everything from Newegg.

Nice!

For a couple more bucks you can make it the 450 if you want.

EDIT: Do you need a case too?

If you do, you might want to think about getting a Sonata or something similar. You'd be getting a very nice powersupply and a high quality case for about $90 (I think it's $90-ish at cheifvalue)

Gotcha.

If he likes clean and simple, here's the sonata. It comes with a nice 380watt antec truepower with 24a on the +12 line.

I think there's a Sonata 2 coming out sometime... not really sure when, but you should check for it when you get around to building :)

No garauntees so far if it's going to be as nice as the Sonata original, but I bet it will be. Probably very similar but with a new powersupply.

Nail him down on a budget... Before you spend the first $!
You can make suggestions as to a ballpark number. But make sure he tells you an exact amount he WILL PAY. :)

Obtaining a 1/2 deposit wouldn't be a bad idea either.

* What if his car breaks down... are you still going to make him pay... will he pay?
* What if he gets sick and is out of work... are you going to make him pay... will he pay?
* What if he changes his mind... are you going to make him pay... will he pay?
* What if he has some type of emergency... are you going to make him pay... will he pay?
* What if... What if... What if... etc.

Given the price difference of like $4? go for it all the way man. Those two are a great match.

blain i'm just going to recommend what to buy. he's going to order everything and pay forit and then i will assemble it.

as for the xclio for $4 that is the way to go, as far as the case that is up to him, personal preference.
