second battery leaking

This is my second battery leaking acid within a day or two apart. Is it the new alternator causing the problem? Same brand(Everstart Maxx) different Wal-Mart.

Highest the alternator reads is 14.09

Have you had your charging system checked? Can you get to an Auto Zone?

It could be overcharging the battery, obviously.

Or, the battery could have a dead cell, which would make the remaining cells over charge.

The best way to check the state of charge of a lead acid battery is to check the specific gravity of the electrolyte in each cell with a hydrometer.

took it to autozone, tested 14.34 and he said that was normal and anything over about 15 is overcharging. Said it may be normal for some batteries to leak some. Should I take this one back or just keep a eye on it?

Perhaps the battery was overfilled?

You don't want any acid leaking out at all because it will seriously damage pretty much whatever it gets on.

If it were me, I wouldn't tolerate it unless it was very minor leakage and even then it would bother me.

I've probably had 10+ service years on 4+ Everstart Maxx batteries and never had a one leak. In fact, I've never had a battery leak I don't think-at least not since they switched to the no-fill type a couple of decades ago.

That's BS that some battery leakage is normal.

Once I was replacing the alternator and voltage regulator on my sister's old Datsun, and something didn't seem right.

I checked the charging voltage, and it was fine at about 14.5 volts, I happened to switch my multimeter to AC volts on a hunch, and measured like 100 VAC going to the battery.

Frickin Kragen parts, never again. I went through 3 alternators and regulators till I got parts that worked.

Check for AC leakage?

VAC should be zero (or damn near to it).
Put your DVM on the battery terminals with the engine running.
