I'm on the east coast, and I need some info from someone in the Seattle/Tacoma area.
How was last week's weather? Was it stormy to the point where businesses were closed and going out limited only if necessary?
And what is the likelihood of a major snowfall this weekend? Thanks.

I'm not a weatherman. in tacoma and there is some snow on the ground, ice on all sidestreets makes driving impractical on all but the main roads unless your car is prepared to handle it. businesses I deal with are open.

edit: it is not that big of a catastrophe, if you are reading local papers to get your info we always make a huge deal out of snowfall

I have been working from home for the last 2 days. My office is in downtown Seattle.
Usually Seattle gets snow only several times a year, and most of the time, Seattle proper does not see any.
The storm this week is rare, lots of workers stay home if road conditions are bad. Since Seattle usually has mild winters, our transportation dept is not all that efficient in plowing snow.

Weather report says there is another snow storm coming in on Sunday. It is rare you get 3 or 4 snow storms within a 2 weeks period in Seattle.

I live in North Seattle, and I can confirm all of the above. The streets really aren't that bad if you stay on the major thoroughfares and take it slow and easy. Then again, I grew up over in Spokane so I might be a little more adept at contending with it. Meh.

At least in the city itself - it isn't that bad. Unless you're a native Seattlite that has no clue how to drive in the snow. I drove to work without any trouble at all every day this week.

I can tell you that Pizza hut isn't delivering :|

I'm in the seatac area (somewhere between seattle/tacoma) and it's really not too bad, I drove quite a bit today and it was only slick on the hilly side roads.
There could be a few more inches of snow this weeked but I wouldnt expect many buisnesses to be closed.

Ya, that was pretty damn silly.

My only beef is the hill my bus goes up, gets pretty shitty in heavy snow and ice.

On the bright side, I used my day yesterday to kill motherfucking zombies on L4D.:D:evil:

Nothing has really closed here except the schools, because the people here are pansies. Plus no one here knows how to drive in slippery weather and it terrifies me.

It's a bad idea to venture out when it's snowing, but right after the storms it wasn't a problem. Staying away from the steep hills is a good idea.

Everything shut down Wednesday in anticipation of snow. It didn't wind up snowing in Seattle, weatherman was wrong, but some of the outlying areas got enough to stop stuff. It snowed yesterday and everything shut down, including colleges and non-essential hospital stuff (my housemate works at Children's, was told to stay home.) Lots of people are staying off the roads today even though it's clear and not icy. It's supposed to snow sometime this weekend and makes Monday work possibly iffy.

Seattle isn't equipped with much snow moving equipment, people don't know how to drive, and the fluctuating weather makes for icy roads, so going out when it snows is actually quite hazardous, even if the conditions alone don't seem to be so. That's why a little snow shuts the whole city down.

It still is very icy in West Seattle, maybe not downtown. You also forgot about the hills around here, that is the biggest problem.

Good point about the hills. I decided not to venture off my hill in the eastside; I could probably get off but definitely wouldn't be able to get back up tonight.
