Seattle Mariners stadium question?

I have a quick question I'm not finding an answer to. I'm ordering some baseball tickets for this summer at Safeco Field in Seattle, and in the upper-deck sections behind home plate Ticketmaster marks several areas as "obstructed view". I've pulled up images of Safeco and cannot see anything obvious that would cause them to be marked as "obstructed view", unless maybe the very corner of the outfield is blocked by the upper deck down the lines?

What can you not see from these seats in Safeco's upper deck behind home?

I'm a Cubs fan, and anybody who's been to Wrigley Field knows what obstructed seats are.

Thanks

I've went there a couple times, don't think it will be anywhere that extreme.

I've had some seats in the lower section of the upper deck (if that makes sense) where the view was obstructed by the poles of the safety railing - one seat there was a thick metal post that blocked my view of the batter - the rail isn't that high, but since you're up pretty high you have to look down to see home plate, and the posts can obstruct the view. There's not many seats like that though - not too descriptive, but it was a couple years ago when I got that seat - it was pretty much right behind home plate, maybe a bit to the side and I'm pretty sure it was an aisle seat.

Actually, check this link - scroll down and there's an example of a semi-obstructed view

http://www.flickriver.com/groups/safeco/pool/interesting/

Not really like what I experienced, but an example of what it may be.

I see what I believe Ticketmaster is labeling as obstructed view in this photo, the guard fencing in front of the staircases may cover up a view of home plate:

Thanks, with Ticketmaster's systems I grabbed tickets in the aisle on the alternate side of those marked obstructed.

Cubs in June?
Have a great time. We really enjoy visiting fans there, no pun intended.

Just a tip, there is a standing room only deck in the outfield that is a bar. Many people simply buy the cheapest ticket they can and watch the game from there, drinking beer.

That's the game! Never been to Seattle before, heard nothing but good things. There will be plenty of visiting fans for sure, especially touring the breweries over the weekend, we're planning to check out at least the Pike and Fremont breweries.

Thanks for the info, I'm going with too large of a group to do that this trip.

If you can make it up to Woodinville (20 mins or so north of Seattle) - Redhook brewery does a great tour for a buck - you get to keep the tasting glass and get like 5 4oz or so pours - great deal, and depending on the tour guide, can be quite entertaining. They run the tours throughout the day @ set times. The beer's not as good as the other places you mentioned, but it's ok, and again, it's a buck =). Also tons of wineries and a few distilleries in the area if you're in to that.

If you are low enough and near an aisle; part of the field is only visible through the screen at bottom of the aisle. As I recall (it's been a few years since I sat there) I had to actually watch a good portion of the game through the railing and a piece of plexiglass, it wasn't all too bad but kind of sucked. As mentioned above, if you are of the younger crowd you can walk around the stadium and enjoy the bar if the seats stink too bad.

Safeco is one of my favorite newer stadiums. I've never had an obstructed view seat there, but if it's anything like Seahawks stadium (I'm tired of the name changing all the time... Century Link Field?) it is probably a handrail blocking the view.

Thanks for the information. I located the seats I purchased on the linked image above, and with the angle the section sees the field, I'm good! I generally like to get a good mid-priced seat on the lower level of a stadium, but it also depends on the group, and for this group cheap is better.

At home at Wrigley Field, one really needs to know the stadium to buy good seats. I've always disliked tickets.com broker for sales, they have always struggled and provided sub-par service to Ticketmaster, and now with Ticketmaster's ability for us to pick the actual seats individual instead of only the option of "best available"... :)

Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely throw them to the group!

I dunno.. there are a lot better breweries in town than Red Hook. Elysian is another one and gives you an excuse to check out capitol hill. I think there is a distillery around there too

I should say I've never been to Red Hook but do know its a popular destination, especially for cyclists because its along a bike route

Gonna be my new stadium as well. Will be in the Tacoma area soon.

I drove from Chicago->Portland-> Seattle a couple years ago. You'll love it up in the NW. Only thing I don't like about Seattle is that it seemingly rains twice as much rainfall as Portland. On the flipside, when I'm up by SeaTac it seems to have a bit fewer gray days outside.

Likely you'll rethink that one.

I was born and raised in western Washington and lived the last few years in Seattle. I have never owned an umbrella.

I think they call it the 'Seattle umbrella' or something, at least I heard an out-of-stater say that once. Everyone wears light windbreakers and walks around with the hood up. Because the rain is mostly just light drizzle

The general idea is to check out a few breweries that do not distribute far, Red Hook I can pick up in town here in Illinois. But the wineries in the area might be nice for others to check out. Elysian sounds good, especially that it's within walking distance of downtown. But the truth is I've already planned far too much of this vacation, if we're doing anything else, the suggestion is originating from someone else!

When we went to Boston two years ago (it may have coincided with the Cubs playing the Red Sox ;) ), I had to take charge and plan it all because no one else wanted to, then it kind of has the feeling of a vacation of only things I want to do. But, we took a day to drive to Hyannis (I love Cape Cod potato chips and on each bag they advertise to visit their factory in Hyannis), took a chance and stopped in at this small place called Cape Cod Beer and it was absolutely fucking fantastic beer, much better than Sam Adams, whom we also toured while in Boston (not putting down Sam Adams, but it simply doesn't compete against them!). Plus with the small breweries you get a different type of employee there to talk with, a regular person who loves beer, versus the larger breweries with official tour guides. Anyways I'm rambling now :)

Yeah, like I mentioned, the beer's not the greatest, but the tour is better than any other brewery tour I've been on, and for just a buck you get quite a bit of beer + the tasting glass- everyone I've taken to has gone back each time they've been in the area- it's a good time.

As for the umbrella...I grew up in Oregon, lived in the Seattle area now for over 10 years- no umbrella here either. Actually I take that back- I do carry one in my golf bag.
