Seatbelt locked.

I'm gutting my car to install sound deadening and one of the seatbelt wound almost all the way up with only an inch of travel, locked and now I can't get it to unwind. Is there anything I can do to try and get it unlocked, or am I SOL and need to replace it?
 
did you look to see if there is a release somewhere? iirc some manufacturers have lifetime warranty so you might try that route, in your case they may feel failure was caused by you tampering with it.
 
Stick a knife or something into it and see if you can't get it to wind back in? After you put it back together, take it to the dealer and have them fix it.
