Seat that heatsink!

A month and a half ago, I upgraded to an XP1700+ and slapped a SLK-800A on top. After testing, I maxed my processor out at 11*166 (1826 MHz). Load temp was 51 C with a case temp of 41 C, which was high but tolerable. System was completely stable.

I recently opened up my case for cleaning, and while I was in there, wiggled the heatsink to make sure that big beast hadn't slipped loose. To my surprise, it actually moved. Just a fraction, but it definitely moved. Messed around with it for a while to make 110% sure it was secure, and fired my system back up.

Dropped my load temps to 43 C. 8 C less, and just 2 C above case temp. Unbelieveable. Just finished Prime95 for 2 straight days, stable at 11.5*166 now (1909 MHz). Going for 2 GHz tonight!

If you have one of these huge copper chunks on your rig, make sure it's seated correctly! Might get a couple extra MHz for the effort!

Been there done that and if you remove the HS you may find a need to put a new coat of compound as mines dripped down when it wasn't seated correctly.

the slk 900 wouldn't have slipped😉

i'm sure only ultra heavy big coolers have much chance of moving at all.
