I don't get it... you don't have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle in some states, but I have to wear a seat belt in all of them. I can understand kids having to wear them, but shouldn't adults have the right to decide whether or not they want to be safe?

I believe OP does have a point. If someone wants to not wear seat belt, it's his/her business. Why should the government have a law against such behavior? On the other hand I think something like indoor smoking should be banned because you behavior also affect others.

There shouldn't be a law against non-seat belt wearers but maybe just warnings. but not law. Anyone wish to take this risk, it's their business. But any child under aged should be required to wear seat belt since they are not old enough to make up their own mind yet.

That's the point I am trying to made. It was never about safety but money.
Shut up. I wasn't talking to you.

And yes, seat belts do make cars a lot safer, even the back seat. Have you ever been in a rolling car before? Try it and you might understand. Come to think of it I don't much care if you have a seat belt on or not when you try it. Society will win either way.

Take a car and get it rolling down a hill at about 30mph

Steer it into a tree or wall.

Without a seatbelt, watch where you face ends up. Your arms are not going to protect you.

Who pays for that cost to keep you repairable if possible and/or on a life support system because you pea size brain rolled out of your skull.

At 60mph; someone gets to bring out the mop and bucket.

And I wasn't speaking to you, so keep your mind to yourself. And what's stopping government from making people wear coat or jacket below a certain temperature or made condom a requirement during sex? It is a slippery slope here.

When I say money, it is more like fine for the evil and corrupt Illinois government.

Seat belts are a conspiracy by the Illinois government to raise revenue? It's a $25 fine. Grow up. Seat belts save lives and prevent accidents.

Yup has nothing to do with saving lives and trying to minimize you being a drain on the system when your ass is turned into a quadriplegic during a low speed crash that would be avoided by the simple act of putting on a seat belt.
Then fix the real problem: don't support anyone injured in such an accident.

Here's something I've always wondered. Why aren't there seat belts on school buses?

The school bus is one of the safest forms of transportation. Refitting all of them would be expensive, and getting kids to use them would be a pain. The losses as they stand are acceptable in light of the cost.

I don't get it... you don't have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle in some states, but I have to wear a seat belt in all of them. I can understand kids having to wear them, but shouldn't adults have the right to decide whether or not they want to be safe?

Helmets block the vision and the hearing. And some people find the ride more enjoyable without a helmet.
A seat belt doesn't interfere with anything.

There are no cons to a seat belt law.

Gub'ment roads, gub'ment rules. Don't like 'em? Build your own roads.
Your defense offers no justification of the law except that you're on government roads, so you must follow any and all arbitrary rules that the government throws at you or build your own. This fails because I'm not allowed to build my own roads. I can't take land from citizens or the government by force to build them.

DominionSeraph believes that government doesn't require justification for anything anyways, so he's not going to acknowledge that you have a point here.

Maybe on some level it shouldn't be but literally thousands of people/year still get injured/die in crashes in which they were not wearing their seat belt. There are probably some idiots who wouldn't be using belts if not for the law leading them to the seat belts like a blind puppy to its food.

I don't have the sheet of paper anymore, but about 2 years ago in Salt Lake City, Utah I received a no seatbelt "click-it-or-ticket" ticket. I thought it was bullshit but whatever, anyway back to the sheet of paper that I doubt I have... the fine for me was $125 for a single no seat belt ticket, whereas the fine for improper child restraint was a mere $35.... That made me pissed beyond belief, not securing a minor was such a minor punishment but not securing myself was so huge. I'm not sure who came up with the fines here but I am willing to bet some corrupt mormon (not that I dislike mormons, they just tend to breed a lot and have mass control of the state) assholes were the ones that decided that parents should hardly be responsible for their own child's safety.

My personal belief is that the safety of others should be the priority of the government, especially the safety of a minor. We as adults have a little wiggle room on the stupid things we can do to hurt ourselves (smoke, drink, no helmet, blah blah)... but the safety of minors should be a huge concern and should always be a larger fine/punishment than the safety of an adult, imo.

For the liberal mind out there, how would you felt if the government REQUIRE you to wear a coat or jacket once it drop below certain temperature or REQUIRE the use of condom during sex?

It is a slippy slop here; hell, mandatory condom use in section 8 housing will save the government a boat load of money in the future, but people will call me a racist prick. Every year those families get thousands of dollar in refundable tax credit.

I am just being political incorrect and proud to be a racist, as every human in the world is a racist to a certain degree, they just don't show or admit it.

I would felt much better if the government require people to learn how to write.

I am just a racist

You are an idiot. What your stupidity has led you to conclude is rather beside the point. An idiot's beliefs have no authority as fact.

You are dismissed.

You're screwed either way. Maybe government should ban motorcycles.

:D

Hell yeah they should. If they mandate seatbelts to protect the citizens, then they are hypocrites if they don't ban motorcycles.

Also this crap about "the roads are government roads, build your own roads" is what a stupid little two year old would say. Government owns every square inch of this country and if you deny that then you are a fuckin moron.
