Seasonic S12-430 = is it enough?

I'm working on building a new system that will be powerful & as quiet as possible.

I'm looking at getting an 4400 X2 & 7800GTX. I may get an SLI board because they tend to be more feature rich, but I think it's doubtful that I'll get another graphics card.

I'm debating between a DFI Lanparty board and the Asus A8N. I may do light over-clocking but I don't want crashes - I get enough of those caused by windows based software & I don't want to wonder if it's hardware or software.

I'll have 2 or 3 sata hard drives and a RW DVD drive.

I'm thinking of putting it all in a P180 case.

Will the Seasonic S12-430 be enough power? Or do I need the 500-600 model? The 430 is quieter so I'd prefer it, but don't want to find out it's underpowered later.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have the Seasonic S12 500w and it's virtually silent. It runs at 900rpm at load. And for what you listed, I would definitely go w/ at least a 500w psu.

The Enermax 495 has more power and just as quiet as the Seasonic S12. The unit comes with 3 yr warranty. Plus you can fine tune the speed of the cooling fan to further reduce noise. The electronics will automatically ramp up the fan speed at higher load.

I would not waste $ on an SLI board. Just more bells n whistles that comsume more power and generate more heat without any performance boost to the PC.

Check out the Abit Fatal1ty AN8 or AN8 Ultra if you're not an extreme overclocker. The Fatal1ty is noisier of the two boards. Note that the NF4 chipset will run HOT and require active cooling. This will probably be ne noisiest component in your system. The Abit boards use heat pipe to lower the noise level.

Oh yes, there are reports in this forum about the P180 not being a very quiet case. These complaints also support my intial observations. I find the Antec SLK3000B to be an excellent performer when it comes to noise control.
