I'm planning on building a comp this summer with these main parts
DFI Lanparty Ultra-D
Athlon 3000+
MSI 6600GT PCIE
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream
Seagate 7200.7 120GB Sata
1GB (2x512)OCZ Value VX

I hav narowed my PSU choice down to either the OCZ Modstream 520W or the Seasonc S12-430W. The reason i compare these to despite their difference in prices is I would have to sleeve the Seasonic myself which is ~$20 in tools and supplies. Which do you think is better?

I want a fairly quiet computer, but for now I will not be replacing the stock HSF or case fans. I would sleeve the Seasonic which is why I am comparing it to the higher priced Modstream 520W.

If you like quiet Seasonic can't be beat, also the modstreams cables are a real pain to bend and xbit reviewed it and didn't like it, I would suggest in addition to those 2 the FSP Blue Storm 500W its quiet (although not as quiet as the Seasonic), stable, has sleeved cables and is cheaper then those 2 (I think)

my seasonic is sweet. its really quiet, and allows me a lot of overclocking potential.

As everyone else says, if you want quiet, you go Seasonic. There are no PSUs out there quieter than a Seasonic unless you want to go fanless PSU.

Also, don't get the Super Silencer. Get either the Seasonic Super Tornado 400 or the S12-- The Super Silencer uses an 80mm fan, which does not vent as well as the 120mm fans in the Super Tornado or the S12. The 120mm fan is also quieter.

uhh, I don't think newegg has the S12-430W because I'm about to buy it too!

We apologize for the inconvenience, but the item you are looking for has been deactivated. Here are some similar products that you may wish to consider:

Seasonic S12 will save you money. It is 80% efficient over it's entire power band. Most others are 65% efficent when they produce 50% power.

I have 4 Seasonics and they are dead silent

eWiz.com also has decent prices on Seasonics. I'll second it that Seasonic PSU's are more efficient.

Don't know about Seasonic or OCZ but i've just bought a Silverstone ST65ZF because its got great reviews and is only one of a few recomended by Gigabyte. Its extremely stable/4 rail 12V!/SATA II. But its not cheap.

Modstream...that Xbits lab liked it, some of it was a little BS IMO.

Id go with OCZ IMO its a solid PSU, youll be happy with either i guess.

both should be rather quiet with single 120mm fan that would be muffled by the case, other then that OCZ is sleeved and modular

I would go Seasonic S12 over the Modstream. If you were talking OCZ Powerstream, then it would be a toss-up between efficiency/quietness to stability/adjustable rails.
