Seasonic G Series

Anybody here have any thoughts generally about this new series, specifically is it worth the additional cost over the S12II/M12II series. I saw a good review on the 360W model on Hardware secrets, wondering about the other models, specifically the 450 that doesn't seem to be available in Newegg yet.

Joined a few days ago, the knowledge shared here is impressive indeed.

Thanks.

Assuming a 450w model becomes available, and that it costs ~$80 (halfway in between the 360w and 550w), it might be a good alternative to the M12 520w. Updated components, higher efficiency, in exchange for a lower wattage. If you don't need the wattage, it's a fair tradeoff.

Positive review of the 550w model at TechPowerUp.com, FYI.

Oh, and welcome to the forums!

What hardware will you be powering? Have you considered the Rosewill Capstone PSUs? They have a 450W in modular and not-modular, and often have it on sale.

Zap,

Thanks for the reply.

Hardware: Intel DG43GT | Core 2 Duo E7500 | 4x2G DDR2 | EVGA GT240, .5G DDR5 | 128G SSD + WD 160G HDD. Strictly Business use, no overclock or anything fancy.

Right now, I'm powering things with a 3-year old Antec Basiq 350w that is beginning to suffer from a noisy fan. Would like to upgrade to something better. These forums have educated me about the value of a good power supply and the better quality of higher end stuff.

Have a Micro ATX case. That Capstone 550W that is on sale plus $5 off sure looks good, probably can't make it fit unfortunately.

What case?

Your current parts probably would need only 100W or so to run.

You don't need super high end power supplies. You just need one that works as advertised and is up to standards. Surprisingly a lot of cheap PSUs don't actually work as advertised (AKA they can't put out the wattage listed on their labels) and don't live up to standards (ATX standards of ripple, voltage regulation, etc.).

Have you considered one of those $40 Seasonic 300W units? They should more than suffice for your needs.

Hadn't really thought about the ones you suggest until seeing your feedback. The SS-300ET seems like it would more than fit the bill.

Not sure what case. Built several years ago by someone else. While I have changed most all the components (ironically, necessitated by a PSU that blew up), I've kept the original case. Don't see a brand on it...

Thank you.

Agree with Zap, your PC only needs a decent low wattage unit

PC Power & Cooling MK III 400W
$60 ($40 AR)
- 5 year warranty over SS-300ET's 3
- modularity makes for easier cable management in your tightly packed case
- 80+ bronze
- built by Seasonic

lehtv,

Thanks for the suggestion. A good quality modular unit at that wattage looks like a great option. Probably would not have been aware of that one had you not chimed in.
