Seasonic 550HT - curious failure

My seasonic 550 died yesterday. It had never been heavily loaded - used on a C2D E6600 with a single 8800. I had originally planned on SLI but it never happened, so I had a crazy overkill PSU. It worked fine for 3 years and 2 months - just enough to get out of warranty. Always powered with a surge supressor, in a home with very stable power.

Then, yesterday, the comp wouldn't power on. It had been working fine, and shut down normally. But, press the power button and ... Nada.

Standby power is still on - keyboard and mobo lights are on. But the comp won't power on.

Even hot-wiring the PSU does nothing.

5VSB meters out at 5.00V. All other lines are at 0. Shorting PS_ON to ground does nothing. All lines stay at 0, expect 5VSB which sits at 5.00.

I just thought it was a bit odd for the PSU to die but the standby power to remain working. Internally, the PSU looks pristine - no blown caps, nothing scorched or overheated.

If I were you I would contact Seasonic for explaining your case. Sometimes the high quality brands like Seasonic accept RMAs although being the PSU a bit out of warranty.
