It's sad, but I really don't think there has to be fault leveled on anyone.

The people should have had the dogs put up if there are cars and delivery people moving around in the driveway.

Even if the father was putting up the "stop" sign, the driver could have easily confused it for a friendly wave.

The driver probably feels pretty bad for killing the dog, but I'm not sure what the people really expect from Sears.

Not too much to ask:

"A simple heartfelt apology and agreement to be more careful around pets would have been nice, but instead we got nothing and told that our dog dying was our fault."

It's not Sears's fault their dog is stupid.

That's one less yappy mop in this world.

That had to have been rough to witness. :(

It's a shame they won't even apologize.

If you're dog is too stupid to keep out of the way of moving cars, tie it up. Actually, unless they live out in the country, it should be tied up anyways.

sears is about as much at fault as is toyota. and making a whole website whining about it is just plain stupid. but whatever, maybe its their way of mourning.

Indeed, the dog dying was truly and totally their responsibility and that is hard to swallow. They are casting about to try and feel better about an avoidable accident.

Although losing a pet is always a sad thing, it's definitely the owner's fault for thinking it's okay to let the dogs just run out the door anytime anyone ever pulls up in a vehicle.

Dogs death is on the owner, not the delivery man.
Seriously folks, we all need to start being more accountable for our own pets and children. The rest of the world didnt ask you to make babies or adopt dogs. YOU made that choice, and you need to deal with it. If you are so damn worried about your dog getting run over, keep it inside.

If you cant control your animal, thats YOUR problem. And you need to take accountability and responsibility for it. Ditto for children.

If your dog is too fucking retarded to stay away from moving vehicles, keep it inside. Dumbass owners lose.

adorable dog, but an owner is liable to make sure their pet is restrained when in public. And yes, your front lawn constitues public. People have and ill be cited for leash laws in their own front yard.

It is a shame, but to a certain extent Sears probably feels they need to be a bit cold to avert a lawsuit if they show any kind of feeling of responsibility.

<owns 2 yorkies and a cat.

Even if it was the drivers fault, it wasn't Sears' fault. Its not like they have hiring criteria for drivers that don't run over dogs.

Anyways, it was the stupid owners fault. Fuck them.

I'll admit to skimming the story and not seeing that part. I figured they were probably sniffing around for a cash settlement.

A heartfelt apology was in order since having a pet die just sucks. I don't think Sears should agree to "be more careful" around pets is in order though, I just had a dryer delivered 3-4 weeks ago, on delivery day I made sure my dog was locked in the house to avoid any possible incident, just applying plain common sense would have prevented their loss and subsequent heartache.

Sad that the dog died, but the owners should have had it tied up or something so that it couldn't go running out to meet cars. If the dog did that to every delivery person, it was only a matter of time before it got run over. The driver of the delivery vehicle should apologize for hitting the dog, but the owners of the dog should realize that the delivery driver is hardly the person at fault for hitting the dog. It's their own negligence that got the dog killed.

He also said that it was negligence on our part, although the dogs were in OUR driveway and not just running around in the street.

I agree with Sears. They should have put the dam dogs in the house. It's a small dog, probably hard to see, and apparently pretty stupid because it didn't move out of the way. I always have my dog in the house or fenced in the back if I know someone is coming over. The owners are at fault 100%.

A simple heartfelt apology and agreement to be more careful around pets would have been nice, but instead we got nothing and told that our dog dying was our fault.

Yup, it was their fault. And you can't tell me that whoever was driving the truck didn't say he was sorry right after it happened. He probably felt like shit. They are trying to make this into a bigger deal than it was. The driver accidently hit their dog that they were too stupid to put away. He appologized at the scene and they are harassing Sears for some other type of compensation. Idiots.

Too bad they don't allow comments on their website. I am sure most people would agree that they were mostly at fault.

Read the site again...it was in their driveway not in the street. I agree to some degree that it's the owners fault but for fucks sake, when the guy is holding up his hands for the driver to stop, stop the fucking car.

Owner at fault for not keeping the dog inside until the vehicle had stopped moving. I feel bad for the owner of the dog and the driver of the truck.
