I already heard that he has to buy all this stuff himself. We used to give family members our old time card stubs to use for 10% discounts, but I guess those days are gone. No problem. He can buy the stuff for me, though I suppose there's a cap on how much stuff he can buy annually. I'll probably max it out every year. :D

There wasn't a cap when I was there.

Worked at Sears for 1 1/2 years, talk about chitty management. Our "store manager" would come by maybe once a month to the department to see if everything was ok, and then just barked orders. He locked all the doors at 9:00 and wouldnt let anyone out until 9:30 (against fire code BTW) even if the whole department was cleaned, stocked, and tagged. We had to help the slack asses in soft lines (clothing) by folding shirts etc, all this while we in the electronics department were paid STRAIGHT commission. This basically screwed out benefit rate over by having to work 30 additional minutes each night with no selling opportunities. The department manager that was hired on about 3 months after I got the job there was a racist pig (he was black). He would only hire black employees even if another applicant was more qualified. I know this b/c a bud from Best Buy applied and didnt get the job. Instead of hiring a highly qualified sales rep, he decided to hire a guy from Africa (like straight off the boat) who could barely speak English. This guy couldnt do jack. Had no idea how to run the register after 3 months of employment. Constantly screwed up customers orders, stole sales from other employees and was either extremely late for work or would leave 2 hours into an 8 hour shift. This guy and another girl from Trinidad that had the same exact work ethic as Kuntakinte floated by for 9 months without one warning. I got fired b/c I didnt run enough credit applications for one month, even though I was the best seller in the department for 6 straight months. I sold at least $10,000 more than anyone in the department and NEVER once had a customer issue. Hell I had relatives/friends of former customers come in and ask for me specifically. I dont see how this company stays in business. We had guys pricematch TV's at bestbuy that were not even the same model and were $100's cheaper than what we had. Guys I worked with would print out ad's from webpages with used or significantly discounted merch. and ring them up for their buddies. This one dude took a $1200 JVC Mini DV camcorder that was returned hid it in the back room and knocked it down by 10% each week and ended up buying it for $100 and management didnt even bat an eye. The guys in the warehouse would steal a $1000 worth of car stereos. All in all Sears SUCKED as a place to work. But when I was there I made $$$$$$ commission rates were high, we had spiffs on certain models. As I hear it now the commission %'s have dropped alot and no more spiffs. I would get between 6-9% commission on Big Screen TV's, from my friend that still works there he says the highest is 4-5%. Cool thing about working at the one I worked at (in college town) was that I banged 3 hot ass chicks while workin there :)

Athens, Georgia, eh? A very good friend of ours got relocated to Georgia to head up a security division for Sears. I wish she had kept in touch. I'd like to hear her take on this. One thing I know about Sears, is you're just a small cog in a very huge machine. That has advantages and disadvantages. Obviously, the thieves who worked with you, exploited some of those "advantages".

I'm hoping my son will be able to "work the system", without resorting to thievery. It would be awesome if he could work his way into a commission position, but I imagine that will take time. In the mean time, he'll be earning a buck and learning valuable lessons about management, customers and coworkers. They don't teach this stuff in college!

Yeah this was, wow I guess 2 or even 3 years ago since I worked there. I have heard alot of things have changed since then. The 991 table or clearanced merch and returned items that the register automatically took 10% off initally. It was quite simple to change that to really what ever you wanted, all you needed was the managers code (which was given to us) and you could literally change it to what you wanted to pay for it. Stacking of coupons, if we really needed a sale we would give 10% of a 10% off sale and even pricematch all in the same transaction, no one in the store knew. This happened countless times and I think only once was someone caught on it. Internet price matching, wow some people got away with all sorts of goods that way. I still have a good friend that works there, and out of all the shadiness that was going on he and I were the only ones that didnt rip people off/steal stuff. PM me with your buddies name and I will see if I know her.....probably do
