Hi,

I'm looking for good IRC programs around. I would like to have the following features:

[1] Enable to create FServer
[2] Enable to XDCC Serving
[3] Safe program: stable and with no backdoors (at least known ones :p)
[4] Resume file transfer
[5] Multiple servers simultaneously

[6] (Any extra features you see important, post them too :D)

I'm used to Polaris ... what are your opinions about it? It seems it has been discontinued :(.

eheh I was expecting to get mIRC answers :D I believe it's a good product, don't use it for a time now, but I'll give it a try. It's version 6.12 now, last one I tried was like version 4-5 (if not older) ... anyway, polaris is based on mIRC anyway :D

So, is there any other software I should bother try? (I'll first try mIRC)

Polaris is a script for mIRC...
there are a lot of similar/clone of it. mostly used are SysReset and Invision

Gotta love a client that can be scripted in perl.

And Python (and ruby I'm pretty sure too) :)

Unfortunately irssi only supports perl now, I guess they're pondering a big rewrite, which would add Python support and other stuff.

Thanks for the replies :D

I'll use this thread to ask another IRC-related question:

I have 2 diferent systems, one with Win XP Pro + Polaris, and another with Win 2K Pro + mIRC 6.12. I made nothing more that to install the irc clients (Polaris was just copy to a directory, mIRC was with setup).

Now I have 2 diferent behavious: on the WinXPPro+Polaris, if I open the Internet Explorer and put irc://irc.server.net/, it will call the Polaris (at least if it's open), and asks immediatly if I want to change connection to that server, or add a connection to it. This means I don't have to create the server in the server list to open it, it's a lot quicker.

On the Win2kPro+mIRC, if I do the exact same thing, the browser just shows page not found ...

Anyone knows how to make it auto-try-to-connect?

Thanks

IRC through IE? Holy Ghetto :) Sorry can't help you. I just do /server <server name here> in the irc window. And /server -n <server name here> will open the server in a new window allowing for multiple network connections.
