My Windows XP computer, built by my brother, assumed that I didn't need a dial-up modem because I have LAN connection. However, just recently my cable modem hasn't been stable. I dug out some old 56K modem, but can't find the driver. I installed my AOL 9.0 CD, as well as the SBC Yahoo! Dialer.
The first modem is a PCI card, I guess it's made by Amquest. The model number is AM56HCFSP with Rockwell chips. Yeah, I found a couple of sites with download driver but it says for Win95, Win98, ME, and NT. I haven't install the modem in my computer.
The second is an external serial modem. It's a Zoom 2948L. Again, driver goes for previous Windows except XP. I was assuming it be plug-n-play. So I hooked it up to my computer, turned on my computer, Windows XP never detected any hardware so I decided to install the Hardware manually (Control Pannel, Add Hardware). I had it set for Com1 and Com2, yet, it was never detected, and there was no dialing sound. So I'm guessing a driver might be the solution... um... right?
So any help, suggestions, all appreciated. Buying a new Dial-Up Modem (USB) will be the last thing on my mind...
Also... do I install the driver first or the hardware first?
Again... it's for Windows XP Professional. HELP!
Thanks in Advance.
