Searching for DAM?

DAM

Diamond Member
So if you go to search and do a user search for DAM you get 613 matches. some of those matches include: aboothman acmonster acid16

It is not really a problem just an FYI i think the search is a little off.

dam()

It's because the search looks in the first/last name fields of people's profile rather than just the username field.

Yep. It probably did before but at least at that point it was only searching for the username which was public info anyway.

that's crazy stuff. i mean, you could find someone's name even if their profile was hidden.
Yes, yes you can.

I don't remember what I was searching for, but it was a fairly common name and it brought up lots of users, some with their profile hidden.

I still think that the search should only look at the beginning of the user name field so that when you search for dam it only pulls back nicks that actually start with those 3 letters.

FT4 would search string* whereas the new FT searches *string*

See Forum user name search issue.

Jason's answer:
"Give it a try now, for now I have changed it to only search nickname. The drop down isn't a bad idea, but in reality allowing people here to know anyone elses first and last name isn't a good idea. Username mode is meant to be anonymous."
