I know my way around the keyboard so to say but I want more. I want to try and learn computer programing. I am thinking about having a career in it but I'm not sure. I want to get something that I can refer to while learning computer programing. Perhaps a book with a CD that comes with it to demonstrate. I've seen a few books out there, but which do you all reccomend? I want to learn the very fundamentals/basics first. I know nothing about programing and I'd like to see if this career is worth pursuing.

Any help appreciated thanks.

Yeah, but for now, start with a simple language like BASIC or some web language like PHP or something. It will help you learn programming logic and such... when you ace those, move on... C++ is a good one, too.

Hit up your local Barnes and Noble and get some books. Even the "for dummies" series is pretty good. You don't really need software with the book, just the program to program in... which for web languages is really just notepad.

I recommend O'Reilly books in general for whatever you wish to learn. You could also pick up e-books online, which I find rather useful for their searchable feature.
