Searching for an ID3 tag program

I have a few directories of MP3s that are named as 'Artist - Year - Album Title/Track Number - Song Title.mp3'. None of these MP3s have ID3 tags, and I want them to have tags before I burn them to CD for use in my Rio Volt, but I don't feel like typing out the info for a couple hundred tags. Anyone know of a program that can automate tagging these MP3s for me? I'd prefer something that does ID3v2, but ID3v1 is fine if there's nothing out there that supports v2. Thanks a bunch.

i recommend ID3-TagIt

does mutliple tags at once, and can make tags from filenames (using artists, track, genre, album, etc), and vice versa. also can convert id3v1 > id3v2, and id3v2>id3v1

and best of all, its free!

get it here.

The Be-All and End-All

I can't say enough good things about this program... has saved me SO much time. It will go to allmusic.com and name everything automatically... will even attach the cover art and album review if you so desire. Syncing v1 and v2 tags is simple as well.

Only problem is that it isn't free... but if you just need to do a few download the trial version. I bought it because I use it so much.

Oh wow...that's a pretty incredible program. I wish I had known about it earlier :)

Thanks, that's going to save me a bunch of time.

I'd agree with that, I've checked out a lot of taggers, and Tag & Rename is the one I liked best. It does everything and has a good interface too. Besides using allmusic.com, it can also connect with cddb and get track names that way.

Another program that I liked was MP3 Internet Renamer. It did the allmusic.com lookup, but even better and easier than T&R. You can set it up to tag, rename, arrange the files in whatever directory structure you want, save an album cover gif, and generate a playlist, all with about 3 or 4 mouse clicks. Unfortunately, it only does v1 tags, and the developer has apparently pulled the plug, so no more updates. And it's totally a one trick pony -- it's only useful if you have full albums that can be looked up in the allmusic database (it used to work with gracenote.com, but they changed the website around and it no longer can pull the track names from the website).

I still use MP3 Internet Renamer sometimes, just because it is so good at that one thing, but Tag & Rename is by far the more versatile tagger.
