Search Tweaked

Did some changes to the search form, should be easier to use now, and has a new quick date feature allowing you to go x amount of days back quickly. Enjoy 🙂. As usual, let me know if you have an issue.

hey zuni, the search looks good...but i can't do the date search...

i tried putting START: 10/13/1999 END: 11/01/1999 with my username and tried both current and archives and i get nothing...

I cant find anything in archives either by "shuxclams" or "nekkid" between 2/1/00 and 9/1/00, any suggestions?

It doesn't work for me, Zuni.

I have a thread saved on my HD that began May 18, 2000. Some forum members have asked for a link and I can't provide it. Its exact title is "Would a God of Love Torture His Creatures for Eternity?", posted by me in OT.

I have tried "search" several ways (archived, by date, username, etc.) and still get a "no results" message.

What am I doing wrong or were some threads lost?

Apoppin, maybe it was wiped by a mod, maybe it was cleaned out during an archive, no idea. The search WORKS perfectly fine, if it was there it would have found it 🙂.

Well, Zuni (thanks for the quick response and excellent work). It wasn't deleted by a mod as of October when the old search engine found it quickly.

What is archive cleaning? Do you delete threads? Or has the db server somehow corrupted some files (I know there are other threads I cannot find - this was just one example I had saved to HD).

Zuni: the date feature works sometimes but most of the time it's not working...i'm talking about searching like way back when we first moved to the new board...like 10/13/1999 to 10/31/1999

i know there are threads there cause when i do a search without the dates, after clicking to the very end the threads are there...

the date feature works fine for recent messages...just not the archives...

Works for me? Ive found things back in october of 1999.

REMEMBER it only brings back 1000 hits.. so you HAVE to narrow your search we are not allowing anymore results at than that at any given time.

alright Zuni...finally got it figured out...after much trial and error...

you know how i said sometimes it worked but not all of the time? well it always worked on the first try but wouldn't work after that...what i did to try again was press the back button...NOW instead of pressing the back button i reload the search page and it works...

try it yourself...after you get to the results page press back and just press search again...you should get no results back the second time...oh yeah, this bug only happens with the archives...like try search dates of 10/13/1999 to 10/15/1999...

thanks for giving the archives back to us 😀 sorry for all the trouble...i just wanted to know what was happening...couldn't figure out if it was just me or what...

That is odd.. the way that drop down works is you have to select either current messages or message older than x days.. on select it uses javascript to set the action of the form. Maybe by pressing back it just caches it.. wierd. I'll look into that.

I know keyword searching the archive's a bit shoddy right now, well about a week ago anyway.

I posted in a thread around 4 months ago & my post had the word 'mojo' in it but, it didn't come up, on a 'mojo' keyword search.

I just had to do a username search on myself & keep scrolling back till I found it, sure enough it was there, & it still had the word 'mojo' in it half a dozen times. So I don't no why the 'mojo' keyword search didn't pick it up.

We are also adding in another few search features, where the search engine will mark the keyword in the message bodies when you view them.. this way you know which message(s) was the hit. Also the next previous buttons are going and the paging method like messages is going in.. and some speed tweaks that will apply after it gets the search results, it wont have to go back to the db again (this is going into testing to see how it performs).
