Something that bugs me with XP I haven?t figured out yet. When you right-click on a folder or file and select SEARCH, the search option that comes up is not right on my computer.

On a co-workers PC, the ?Look in:? box is populated with the path in which he clicked to search on. In other words, if he right-clicks on C:\Program files\apps\stuff\ and selects search, in the ?Look in:? box has that path. He can click the dropdown list and further browse if he wants to.

On MY PC, the ?Look in:? box is always blank. I can?t browse anything. I select the dropdown list and it only gives me 5 items to search, My Docs, My Pics, My Music, My Head is on fire (just kidding), Desktop?.etc. I CAN?T BROWSE ANY OF THESE!!!!!!! :|

How the $##$#% do I fix this POS Search function in XP!!!!

I have to Type in the path where I want to search, EVERYTIME! I?m missing something. If anyone has an answer, PLEASE let me know.

This one has me stumped.

Thanks

a) Just tried it here and it's working properly. Do you have any 'weird' shell extensions loaded that also show up on that context menu?

b) I tried emailing you regarding another thread, can you update your email address (it bounced) or turn on pms?

Sorry 'bout the e-mail. I dumped that one a few weeks ago. Profile now updated.

In the "Look in:" dropdown, I have: (My Documents; My Pictures; My Music;Desktop; My Computer).. that's it. No drives or anything.
My Computer won't expand... nothing will...

If I open "Search" manually, My Computer is default in "Look in:"
If I open search by right clicking on something and selecting Search, "Look in:" is empty.

I know... it's a Pain in the rear. Every other computer I've checked works normal (though you still cann't browse, just select a drive to search).

This isn't a fresh install, it's an upgrade from 2000. There's no way I am going to do a fresh install :| It would take me weeks to get this thing setup. I can't do that. This is work, not home. I've probably got 25 to 30 applications installed on this beast. :frown:

Oh well, if anyone can think of anything. I'd sure love to be able to search efficiently again.

Thanks
