search issues

For the last couple of months whenever I search for my own topics, nothing is returned. For example, I have a topic right now titled, "WTB: Dead Dell 4600 motherboards". If I search for 4600 or motherboards, my thread is not returned in the results. The only way I can find my thread is to do an advanced search for topics under my name. Anyone else have this problem?

Ditto, I just reposted an article in P&N because the search didn't turn it up.

I searched for the word "porn" and only one article showed up:

"Taxes & Budget Thread:7-24-05 Idiot Democrat proposes 25% Internet Tax to protect Children from seeing Porn"

however there was another thread right on the first page:

"FBI's renewed War on Porn"

How often is the full text index updated? This may be a big reason for reposts.

Searching for 'Rita' in OT does not return any of the several threads with 'Rita' in the title.

This has become really irritating lately... I just want to be able to search normally instead of seeing everyone elses posts except my own.

Same issues. The search function is dead and always has been. It's never ever been fully fixed from like 2002.

Honestly, you really can't search for anything. Totally broken.

yeah usually I do not like to critize FT because I know jason works hard...but wasn't this fixed before?

You guys are right, the search function is completely jacked. It returns some results, but not always. It's very inconsistent to say the least.

If it will help Jason,
One thing I noticed is that if a word has an exclamation point next to it, it seems to get missed by the search. (I tried 2 examples I could think of and was 0-2; could just be that they would have been missed anyway)

same deal here... my thread is entitled: [POLL] - do you keep your work email strictly for work stuff ?

And I can't find it via the string "work" and posted by me. 😕

These functions of searching are complex. Why could it be just like regular forums? It's much easier. I just want to search for my own post and it can't even do that for me.

There seems to be a lot of lag time between new posts and the time those posts appear in the search engine. I wonder how frequently the board updates its search database.

how about this in the meatime while the admin finds a way to get the search back up and operational:

STOP POSTING USELESS "R" or "Repost" MESSAGES IN SOMEONE'S NEW THREAD SINCE NOONE CAN CHECK FOR REPOSTS ANYMORE. Dammit, the people happen to have posted in a message 3 years ago, happen upon a new thread saying the same thing, and the search function is down, and they have the balls to call repost. what a load
