I need to search for a specific string in some configuration file - but Windows doesn't have a way to do this that I'm aware of (just file/folder names).

Any good free software to do this?

The integrated Windows search has this (at least XP does). Search > For Files or Folders > All Files and folders > A Word or Phrase in the file:

Exactly  I use it all the times with XP but Vista doesn't have it

The Windows search isn't quite as nice because it doesn't tell you the line number in a file - important when you have a couple thousand line text file. Oddly I had no idea XP could search like that too!
