Search for hidden files

I want to be able to search for files that are hidden. My purpose is to look for software that may have been loaded on my computer without my knowedge. I have been unsuccesful in finding a utility that will simply search just for hidden files, no matter what they are named. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For windows:

MyComputer-->View-->Folder Options-->View tab-->Check show all files.

also look into pc-rdist. quick and dirty way to get the system back to before the installation occured.
