Search Engine Hijacking

Whenever I use Google or Yahoo search in internet explorer, I end up getting a pop-up(which ends up being blocked by google pop-up blocker) and then I get a bogus page of search results. Then after clicking the next page it shows up that it would be the first page of the search with the actual results. It doesnt do this with the MSN search or in Firefox, but I don't like either of them. I've tried using Spy-bot and ad-aware to fix it but nothin' works. Does anyone have any suggestions to what else I can try? This is getting really annoying.

Thanks in advanced

Look through your add/remove programs list and see if any stick out as adware. I've found stuff like the lycos search bar in there when adaware/spybot didn't.

Have you tried cleaning your PC with Spybot or Ad-Aware? Also, with some of these hijackers, you have to go into the registry and remove the offending keys.

I had the exact same problem before I formatted (for another reason).

Tried just about everything and couldn't get rid of it.

You need to identify the hijacker first. I did that by looking at the processes that were running (do CTRL-ALT-DEL) and checking the suspicious ones.

Go to Symantec for an example of removing adware!
