Howdy! Seagate's "new" media player the GoFlex TV HD can be had for $89.99 with free shipping by ordering from their site and using the promo code: seagatestorage

Link:
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/pr...nt/hd-media-player/#tTabContentSpecifications

promo code:
seagatestorage

MSRP is $129.99 and ts on sale on their site for $99 so my receipt looks like this:
Subtotal: $99.99
Shipping: $0.00
Discount: 10%

Tax: $0.00
Total: $89.99
Discount: $47.99

I also have a WDTV live and it has been more and more finicky lately on if it will see my network shares or not so I figured I would give this one a try. It has Netflix and most like the look of the UI better. I really just want a cheap XBMC replacement, I miss my Xbox but it could not keep up with HD MKVs. This "new" unit appears to be their Freeagent Theater+ HD unit in a new shell and without the hard drive dock.

Enjoy!

The WDTVLive has been similarly problematic for me using the factory firmware(s). I switched to the B-RAD custom firmware and xmount in the net.conf file to access shares and haven't had any problems since. The WD Firmware also lacks any ability to skip forward / backward except in 10minute increments. The custom firmwares and scripts offer alternatives to that which I haven't tried yet.

I'd be interested if the Seagate offers 'jump' skipping options and if it can play windows media / dvr-ms files.

It is supposed to be the same as the Freeagent Theater+ HD which can Bitstream. but once mine comes in I will confirm it. Here is a video review of it that shows some of the menus. I was hoping that it would show the audio setup menu as that would say raw for the bitstream option.

The GoFlex menus start at 6:17

So got mine in, and after a couple hours of correcting permissions on my Win7 media server everything seems to work OK. High bitrate BluRay ISOs definately drop audio on my wired gig network (I believe the Goflex is only 10/100 anyway) so that sucks, but HD M2TS and MKV files all play very smoothly.

As for audio, here are the options:
S/PDIF LPCM
S/PDIF RAW
HDMI LPCM
HDMI LPCM Multi-Ch
HDMI RAW

Also getting to network shares is like 5 clicks so it is not any better than the WDTV in that respect, however it is playing some very new HDTV show rips where the WDTV failed to play the audio so I am happy. Also the menus in DVD ISOs work perfectly which is also a nice kicker over the WDTV.

I would say for the money with NetFlix support out of the box, I really can't complain.
