Seagate Warranty Does Not Cover OEM Drives?!

1. Almost nobody covers OEM hardware, they are for Original Equipment Manufacturers... Aka.. you buy it to sell to a customer and then you provide him warranty, not seagate or whomever built the components. OEM typically does not include: Accessories, nice box, and warrante
2. Warranty does NOT go by manufacturing date... HDD companies simply, as a standard of service, let you replace a drive under warranty without a receipt for X years (the warranty legth) of the drive manufacturing... that is, a 3 year warranty drive made in may 1st 2000 will be accepted without a receipt until may 1st 2003. But if you bought it from a retailer on 2003, they will warranty it until 2006 as long as you have the receipt to prove your purchase date.
3. If newegg said the drive has a 5 year warranty, and the OEM said they didn't, then newegg made a mistake in their listing. They have done that before. I have gotten the wrong item from newegg in the past, generally they try to own up to it and make it right.
(for example, when I order some circumaural headphones and was given superaural instead, i complained that the listing was wrong and they waived the restocking fee)
