Which one do you guys think is better? I don't really know which one is better, but I kind of like both of them, I'm currently using Seagate for my internal HD, and it works great and quiet too.. but western digital seems also have good popularity in the external HDD... please give me your suggestion and comments acccording to this... thx

Personally I like Seagate first, then Hitachi (though they are really co-number one) and then Western Digital.

True...

best way to go, if you are concerned with warranty, is to buy a case yourself and build your own external drive.

I have a 500GB My Book from WD, and have used several smaller models at work.

Seem to be reliable, quiet and speedy enough for what we use it for.

I haven't used any other makes/models so I will reserve comment on the others. :)

The mybooks are good drives, and if you have an esata port and care about speed definitely go for an external drive with esata (and preferably usb2.0 as well for use on older machines).

The Seagate FreeAgent series offer a 5-year limited warranty. I bought one myself and couldn't be happier with the decision.

I have both - but never a packaged external. I roll my own always. That's what becomes of old drives after an upgrade - laptop and desktop.

Take the one that gives the best deal total price including taxes and shipping.

I've only owned Seagate over the years and been very satisfied with the performance and quality.

these are "commodity" items, virtually interchangeable without noticing any differnce.

buy the less expensive one.

It so happens that I've seen lower pricing recently on the WD at ZZF, but the daily situation is fluid and changes fast.

I have WD & Maxtor HDDs, all the same really. Paid a pretty penny extra for the WD Raptors, can't really tell any difference in terms of human-perception. For for the best bargain price, disregard any worry over brand name, and favorably weigh longer warranty.

There look to be some good buys at this moment (changes daily) on those WD Caviars, see for instance ZZF item 101220-12 for $68.50 w/ free shipping (internal, although you said external). Good deal. Opinion merely.

I own two Seagate externals, a 300GB and a 750GB. Both have worked flawlessly (except for having the 750GB model plugged in and turned on when you boot will keep Windows from loading...?)
I got the 750GB from Best Buy for $307, which was a great deal for such a large drive!
They are both USB/Firewire, by the way.
