Several weeks ago I had a boot problem with my Seagate ST3500320NS hard drive but it did recover after a couple heart failures (me not the computer) and reboots. Since it never happened again I figured it was a loose cable or something. I did notice excessive noise and activity from the drive occasionally but again nothing definite so I figured it was just normal Seagate operation. Next time I would return from my single purchase of Seagate and go back to old reliable Western Digital (OK don't laugh but from my experience it's true or at least their customer support has been good to me after a failure.)
After luckily reading the Anandtech article (thank god for Anandtech),

I thought the problem sounded familiar although my hard drive recovered it seems. BUT I checked the model and serial number on Seagate's website and aha! I had the problem. Not such a rare occurence as claimed by Seagate if it happens to you personally. Unless you yourself are affected, you don't understand how it feels to have a ticking time bomb inside your hard drive.

It's been 3 days (2 business days) with no response from Seagate. As far as I know, the FW is not available from their website for download so I followed Seagate's instructions and emailed them. I wonder if the problem is not fixed because how long can it be to e-mail me the FW??? Or at least send a reply. Other people are saying they have the fixed FW but I see no posts for my model.
Is anyone else having this same issue (i.e. no FW)? Or should I e-mail Seagate again (due to possibly lost e-mail)?
Here's one really weird thing that leads me to believe that they received my e-mail.
I also told them in my e-mail that there is a formatting problem preventing me from easily viewing the Knowledge Base document with my browser.
Well it's fixed! Good customer service at least with fixing web pages. Now where's the new FW?
